Friars Gate Archers held their 17th annual BLBS rules Two Way Western shoot on Sunday 25th April at Buxted Park, 26 longbows took to the field at 2pm on a sunny but windy afternoon. Shooting mixed with conversation and good humoured banter was enjoyed by all. Most of the cursing and excuses were thankfully directed at the wind.
A comfort break and a glass of sherry were most welcome after the first four dozen. Shooting continued apace and after another four dozen everyone was ready for afternoon tea with sandwiches, trifle and cake. After everyone had taken refreshment Ian Martin (Field Captain) presided over the prize giving (well done to Ian who managed to finish the round despite his bad knee).
Margaret Bunyard was first for the ladies with Jane Skinner second and in third place Yvonne Easton. For the gentlemen, first place went to Steve Chapman (despite his complaints about the target distances, faces, height of boss, shape of boss, colour- need I go on, he certainly did), second place to FGAs own Anthony Arber and third to Edward Knight.
Everyone had a great time and I hope they will be back again next year, many thanks to the field party (Arthur, Ken, Stevie, Brian and Daryl and other FGA members) for setting up and clearing the field, also a special thanks to Claire and Josie for the afternoon tea and Arthur for the trifles.
